An Obituary Dedicated to My Former Self

Once upon a time, a woman named Kathy Maria Henry was born, and she has dealt with a lot of adversity in her life. She was a teen mother on welfare, lived in low income housing, and was considered one of the dregs of society.

But she refused to allow the limitations that society placed upon her determine her self-worth, and she not only managed to survive but thrive. She saw all three of her children graduate from college and become productive members of society despite society telling her that her children would be nothing because they were born to her. She got a degree of her own, and has been working hard these past few years, making money.

She also experienced several tragedies over the past few years. She became the sole survivor of her childhood family after the death of her remaining sibling three years ago, and the death of several friends and family members that she loved with all her fiery soul. In addition to this emotional trauma, she was diagnosed with epilepsy a month before her 50th birthday. There were times during this period in her life, she thought she would go mad, but she managed to persevere as she always has.

She should be feeling fantastic right now. All her children are adults, she got a lil change in her pockets, and is free as a bird but she is not because she feels like something is missing in her life, and she doesn’t know what it is. So she decided to write this obituary about her former self because it is time for a new beginning. Although she is in her 50s, she still has a lot of life in her, and she has made the decision to embrace it. Fully and completely so with that, she biding adieu to her former self to become a whole new being. A being filled with joy, new adventures, and a zest for life.  She will no longer hang on to ideologies and people that mean her no good, and she is going to live. Just live and be happy.
