My first name means pure and it’s a shortened version of the name Katherine. The name Kathy is of Greek origins “Greek καθαρός (katharos)” which is cool, but as a child, I thought I had the most boring name around. During a time when my classmates were named Lisa, Kimberly, and Stephanie, I was named dull ass Kathy. But it could have been worse. My mother told me that she thought about naming me after herself and her name was Gertrude. She was named after her mother and briefly thought about continuing the tradition but I’m so glad she didn’t. I would have caught hell with the name Gertrude during the 70s and 80s. Hell even now.
