My Old Man

My buddy

Last week on my Facebook feed, some of my friends had to make the decision to put their beloved cats down because they were sick and aging and it pained me to see their pain. Particularly since I have a super senior cat of 15 years.

He’s been a part of my life since he was eight weeks old and he’s literally my fourth child. As he’s getting older, he’s slowing down, he’s balding around his eyes, and his formerly silky, black fur is turning a dark brown but to me, he’s my baby cat and I’m his mama cat.

I know eventually one day that I will have to make the same decision when that time comes, and it will be one of the most painful decisions I’ve ever made in my entire life, but I will remain by his side like I told his mama I would when I adopted him. I told her that he would always have a home, a full belly, and lots of love. It’s a promise I will never break.
