What skills or lessons have you learned recently?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to stop beating myself up mentally. Last week, I had the pleasure of seeing two of my children graduate from college two days apart. My eldest daughter graduated from college back in 2011, and now all three of my children are college graduates.

I was a teenage mother, on welfare at times, and lived in low income housing for awhile. Statistics and society said my children wouldn’t amount to anything. My daughters would have a bunch of kids and my son would be a thug, but guess what? They kicked every stat in the ass.

It was times when I thought I wasn’t anything because I believed that shit, but never again. Never will I allow strangers to write my story. Never again.
