All though Black folks love to claim religion, a whole lot of these motherfuckers ain’t really worshipping God. Let’s tell the truth and shame the devil. And let me say this before somebody starts clutching pearls: I’m not even a religious person at all. Never claimed to be. But one thing I do recognize from a mile away is hypocrisy. The real religion in too many corners of the community is money, status, labels, celebrity, and proximity to fame. Folks will quote scripture on Sunday and spend the rest of the week bowing at the altar of materialism and internet validation.
People know rap lyrics better than they know verses. They can tell you who cheated on who, who bought a new chain, who got the latest BBL, whose baby daddy got exposed, and what celebrity wore what outfit to the Met Gala—but ask them to show compassion, integrity, humility, or discipline and suddenly the church mouse gets quiet.
Everybody screaming “favor ain’t fair” while chasing wealth like it’s salvation itself. Some folks don’t want spiritual growth. They want luxury with a side of Bible quotes. They want blessings without accountability. Morality gets tossed out the window the minute money enters the room.
And before folks get mad, hit dogs holler.
Because if your god can be replaced by a celebrity, a bankroll, a designer label, or social media clout, then maybe your faith was never that deep to begin with.
